Scope of Work

The selected research agency will be responsible for undertaking a mixed-method baseline assessment on TB and nutrition in Vaishali district, Bihar. The assignment will include quantitative surveys, qualitative enquiries, data analysis and evidence synthesis to support REACH’s family-centred TB and nutrition intervention.

The broad scope includes:

  1. Baseline Nutritional Assessment
    Assess nutritional status and vulnerabilities among People with TB and their household contacts using indicators such as Body Mass Index, Mid Upper Arm Circumference, comorbidities including HIV and diabetes, and substance use indicators such as tobacco and alcohol use.
  2. KAP and Treatment Experience Assessment
    Evaluate knowledge, attitudes and practices related to TB and nutrition, health-seeking behaviour, household food insecurity, access to support systems, treatment experiences, and barriers or facilitators to treatment completion and recovery.
  3. Dietary Practices and Preferences Mapping
    Understand local food habits, dietary practices, food preferences and consumption patterns to support the design of suitable nutrition baskets for TB-affected households.
  4. Evidence Review and Synthesis
    Compile and synthesize published literature, case studies and evidence on the relationship between TB and undernutrition, including national and global nutrition interventions for TB-affected families.

REACH expects the selected agency to adopt a mixed-methods research approach, including:

  1. Quantitative cross-sectional surveys
  2. Qualitative enquiries among TB-affected households
  3. Household-level assessment
  4. Literature and case-study review
  5. Data analysis and reporting

Eligible participants will include People with TB whose current facility is in Vaishali district, along with their household contacts. PwTB may include those who completed treatment within the last six months and those currently undergoing treatment after completing at least three months.
