One of the significant developments in Gujarat’s AI-ML education expansion is the creation of alternative pathways for students beyond conventional engineering degrees. Experts suggest that students who are unable to pursue traditional BE or BTech programmes, or those coming from the Class 12 general stream, can now explore options such as BSc, BS, MSc and integrated degree programmes in AI, Data Science and related fields.
These programmes are expected to broaden access to technology education, especially for students from non-traditional backgrounds. However, mathematics continues to remain a key prerequisite for most AI-ML and Data Science programmes due to the technical and analytical nature of the curriculum.
The shift also indicates a larger transformation in higher education, where institutions are increasingly designing courses around employability, emerging technologies and industry-linked skills.
MS University Introduces Advanced Computing and Data Science Programmes
In Vadodara, The Maharaja Sayajirao University’s Faculty of Science has announced two new programmes from the 2026-27 academic year.
The first is a two-year MSc in Advanced Computing with 20 seats. The second is a five-year integrated MSc in Data Science with 60 seats. These programmes are expected to support students seeking specialised education in computing, analytics and data-driven technologies.
Faculty Dean Prof. Vipul A. Kalamkar stated that the initiative reflects the growing shift towards specialisation-driven education. The introduction of such programmes highlights the increasing importance of structured higher education pathways in advanced digital fields.
Parul University Launches New Courses in AI and Quantum Computing
Parul University, which already offers multiple engineering programmes in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, has introduced three new programmes for the 2026-27 academic year.
The new courses include:
- BTech in Computer Science and Engineering – Quantum Computing in AI
- BTech in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science with Quantum Computing
- BTech in Quantum Computing
These programmes reflect the rising academic interest in the intersection of AI, Data Science and Quantum Computing. With industries exploring next-generation computing solutions, universities are increasingly preparing students for futuristic and interdisciplinary roles.
Dr. Swapnil Parikh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Parul University, said that demand for futuristic and interdisciplinary technology programmes has been increasing sharply. The university has also reported growing enrolment in AI-focused programmes. Enrolment in BTech AI and Data Science increased from 637 students in 2024-25 to 697 students in 2025-26, while 163 students have already enrolled for the current academic year as the admission process continues.
Navrachana University and NFSU Strengthen AI-Linked Programmes
Navrachana University is also offering programmes linked to AI, Data Science and Analytics. These include BSc in Data Science, BBA (Honours) in Business Analytics, and an integrated BSc-MSc Computer Science programme with AI-ML.
Meanwhile, institutions such as the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) are focusing on specialised technology areas connected to national security, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure protection. NFSU’s MTech in AI and Data Science is an example of how AI education is being aligned with critical sectors such as cyber safety and digital governance.
These programmes highlight the widening scope of AI-ML education, extending beyond software development into cybersecurity, public systems, forensic sciences and infrastructure security.
AI-ML Enters Humanities, Law, Architecture and Creative Fields
