Jaipur, May 29, 2026: Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (MDSU), Ajmer, has announced the launch of its skill-based Learn, Earn, Perform (LEaP) initiative for students taking admission in the upcoming academic session. The initiative is aimed at enabling students to gain financial assistance while pursuing their studies, along with real-world work exposure and professional skill development.
Under the LEaP scheme, selected undergraduate students will receive financial assistance ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 per month, while postgraduate students will be eligible for assistance ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 per month. The university has positioned the scheme as a major step towards integrating academic learning with practical, skill-based work experience.
According to the university, the objective of the initiative is to ensure that students are not limited only to classroom-based education, but are also exposed to professional work culture, hands-on assignments and employability-oriented learning. The scheme is expected to help students strengthen their confidence, workplace discipline, communication ability and problem-solving skills.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suresh Kumar Agarwal said that the LEaP initiative will provide selected students with an opportunity to develop practical work experience and professional competencies along with academic learning.
“Promoting skill-based and experiential education in line with the National Education Policy is the need of the hour. The LEaP scheme will help students become self-reliant and strengthen their employability skills,” Prof. Agarwal said.
Work Areas Under the LEaP Scheme
Selected students will be assigned responsibilities across multiple university functions and activity areas. These may include academic support, research-related work, digital initiatives, administrative activities, environmental assignments and creative projects.
The university has identified several areas where students may contribute, including:
These assignments are expected to give students exposure to structured work environments and help them understand institutional processes beyond their regular academic curriculum.
Selection Process for Students
Students under the LEaP scheme will be selected through a defined evaluation process. The selection will be based on academic performance, relevant skills, attendance, discipline and interviews. This approach is designed to identify students who demonstrate both learning potential and readiness to take up practical responsibilities.
University officials said that the initiative will also help students develop leadership qualities, vocational experience and a stronger sense of work culture. By allowing students to participate in institutional activities, the scheme is expected to create a bridge between higher education and employment readiness.
Alignment with National Education Policy
The LEaP initiative reflects the growing emphasis on experiential and skill-based education under the National Education Policy. Across higher education institutions, there is increasing focus on integrating academic courses with practical exposure, workplace learning and employability skills.
For students, such initiatives can play an important role in reducing the gap between academic qualifications and industry expectations. Through financial support and hands-on experience, the LEaP scheme may help students become more self-reliant while preparing them for future career opportunities.
Significance for Higher Education and Skill Development
The launch of the LEaP initiative by MDSU is significant at a time when universities are being encouraged to adopt more flexible, outcome-based and skill-oriented learning models. By offering earning opportunities within the university ecosystem, MDSU aims to support students financially while also preparing them for professional roles.
The initiative is expected to benefit students from diverse academic backgrounds, particularly those who are looking for practical exposure, workplace discipline and early professional experience during their higher education journey.
With LEaP, MDSU Ajmer is positioning itself as an institution that supports not only academic achievement but also student empowerment, employability and skill development.
