ASHA – The Hope Café Opens in Delhi Cantonment to Empower Youth with Special Needs from Armed Forces Families

New Delhi, May 28, 2026: In a significant step toward inclusive skilling and sustainable livelihood creation, ‘ASHA – The Hope Café’, a first-of-its-kind social enterprise, has been launched in Delhi Cantonment to support youth with special needs from armed forces families.

The initiative has been designed to provide structured hospitality training, workplace exposure, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship support to young beneficiaries. By combining professional café operations with skill development, the project aims to create a practical and sustainable model for inclusive employment.

CSR-Backed Social Enterprise with Community Purpose

The café has been established with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support from United Spirits Limited, Diageo India, and will be operated under the guidance of the Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA).

Conceived as a premium café with a strong community-led purpose, ASHA – The Hope Café brings together the key pillars of hospitality, skilling, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. The project is expected to support youth with special needs by helping them gain industry-relevant skills and confidence to participate in the workforce.

Focus on Hospitality Skilling and Livelihood Creation

ASHA – The Hope Café has been designed as a professionally managed café with curated artisanal offerings and modern operational infrastructure. Beyond serving customers, the café will function as a skilling and livelihood platform.

The initiative will facilitate structured training in:

  1. Hospitality services
  2. Café operations
  3. Bakery skills
  4. Finance basics
  5. Entrepreneurship
  6. Customer service and workplace readiness

Through this approach, beneficiaries will receive hands-on exposure to real workplace environments while building skills that can support long-term livelihood opportunities.

A Replicable Model for Cantonments

One of the major objectives of the initiative is to develop ASHA Café as a replicable model that can be expanded across other cantonments in the future. If scaled successfully, the model could create more inclusive workspaces for youth with special needs from armed forces families across India.

The café also highlights how CSR partnerships, community institutions, and professional skilling models can work together to build sustainable social enterprises.

Diageo India Highlights Learning for Life Programme

Speaking on the launch, Devashish Dasgupta, Director – Corporate Relations at Diageo India (USL), said that through the company’s Learning for Life programme, Diageo India has worked to build skills and enable employment opportunities in the hospitality sector for youth, persons with disabilities, and members of the armed forces community.

He added that the company is proud to partner with AWWA on this initiative, which aligns with the broader goal of promoting inclusive skilling and employment.

Strengthening Inclusive Skill Development

The launch of ASHA – The Hope Café comes at a time when inclusive skill development is becoming an important priority in India’s employment and livelihood ecosystem. Initiatives like this demonstrate how targeted skilling programmes can create meaningful pathways for persons with special needs, especially when supported by industry partners and community-led institutions.

For the armed forces community, the café represents more than a workplace. It is a platform of dignity, confidence, and opportunity for young individuals who need structured support to build independent futures.
