SAIL and EdCIL Partner to Promote Inclusive Digital Education

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EdCIL (India) Limited to establish Smart Digital Classrooms in schools located around SAIL’s operational areas.

The MoU was signed on 26 May 2026 as part of SAIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The collaboration aims to strengthen inclusive education and improve learning outcomes by introducing technology-enabled learning infrastructure in schools serving communities around SAIL’s plants and operational regions.

According to the official announcement, the initiative is designed to support the broader national goal of improving access to quality education through digital tools and modern classroom solutions.

Smart Classrooms to Strengthen Learning Outcomes

Under the MoU, Smart Digital Classrooms will be installed in schools situated around SAIL’s operational areas. These classrooms are expected to help students access more engaging, interactive and technology-driven learning experiences.

Digital classrooms can play an important role in enhancing classroom participation, improving teacher-led instruction and supporting students with multimedia-based learning content. For schools in industrial and semi-urban regions, such CSR-led interventions can help reduce the digital divide and provide students with better exposure to modern education tools.

The collaboration between SAIL and EdCIL is particularly significant as it brings together a major public sector steel enterprise and a public sector education consultancy organisation to support school-level digital learning infrastructure.

Alignment with NEP 2020 and SDG-4

The project aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the use of technology in education, inclusive learning opportunities and improved educational outcomes.

The initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG-4), which focuses on ensuring inclusive, equitable and quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

By investing in Smart Digital Classrooms, SAIL’s CSR initiative contributes to the larger national and global agenda of making education more accessible, inclusive and future-ready.

CSR in Education: A Step Towards Digital Inclusion

Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the education sector have become increasingly important in bridging gaps in infrastructure, digital access and learning resources. For communities located around large industrial operations, such initiatives can create long-term social impact by improving educational facilities and strengthening the learning environment for children.

SAIL’s initiative reflects the growing role of public sector enterprises in supporting community development through education, skill-building and digital empowerment. The installation of Smart Digital Classrooms can also support teachers by enabling better classroom delivery and making lessons more interactive.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Officials

The MoU between SAIL and EdCIL was signed in the presence of Shri K. K. Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL. Senior officials from both SAIL and EdCIL were also present during the signing ceremony.

The partnership marks an important step in promoting technology-enabled inclusive education and demonstrates how CSR initiatives can contribute to India’s education transformation goals.

Why This Initiative Matters

The Smart Digital Classroom initiative is expected to benefit students in schools located around SAIL’s operational areas by giving them access to improved learning infrastructure. Such initiatives can help create a more equitable education ecosystem, especially in regions where access to digital learning resources remains limited.

As India continues to focus on digital education, skill development and future-ready learning, collaborations like the SAIL-EdCIL MoU can serve as an effective model for CSR-led educational transformation.
