IndiaSkills 2026–27 Opens New Opportunities for Young Talent Across 63 Skill Categories
New Delhi, July 2026: India’s flagship skill competition, IndiaSkills 2026–27, has been launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, opening a new national opportunity for young Indians to showcase their practical skills, technical expertise and industry-ready talent.
The competition was launched by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education. Registrations for the competition are now open through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), providing young aspirants with a digital platform to participate in the country’s premier skill competition.
A National Platform for Skill Champions
IndiaSkills 2026–27 aims to identify, nurture and showcase skilled youth from across India across 63 industry-relevant skill categories. The competition is being organised under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) supporting as the knowledge and implementation partner.
The competition will follow a structured pathway, beginning from District, State and Regional Competitions, and moving towards the National Competition. Selected candidates will receive advanced training and assessment opportunities, with the possibility of representing India at international platforms such as the WorldSkills Competition.
63 Future-Ready Skill Categories
IndiaSkills 2026–27 will continue with 63 future-ready and industry-aligned skills, covering key sectors such as:
- Advanced manufacturing
- Construction
- Digital technologies
- Engineering
- Hospitality
- Transportation
- Creative industries
- Emerging technologies and future skills
These categories reflect the changing needs of industry and the growing importance of hands-on technical skills in the modern workforce.
Why IndiaSkills Matters
IndiaSkills is more than a competition. It is a national talent discovery platform that helps young people gain confidence, industry exposure and recognition for their skills. It also encourages students, trainees, ITI learners, polytechnic students, engineering students and skilled professionals to pursue vocational excellence as a serious career pathway.
According to the official announcement, IndiaSkills has grown significantly since its inception in 2016, when it saw around 5,000 registrations across 20 skills. In the recently concluded IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26, participation increased to over 3.5 lakh registrations across 63 skills, covering all 36 States and Union Territories.
India’s Growing Performance in Global Skill Competitions
IndiaSkills also serves as an important pathway for selecting and preparing Indian competitors for global skill competitions. India achieved its best-ever global ranking of 13th at WorldSkills Competition 2024 in Lyon, France, winning 4 Bronze Medals and 12 Medallions for Excellence.
India further improved its position by securing 8th rank at WorldSkills Asia Competition 2025. Team India also performed strongly at the Global Skills Challenge 2026 in Australia, winning 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals across multiple skill areas.
Encouraging Wider Participation
The Ministry has encouraged States and Union Territories to mobilise wider participation through schools, ITIs, polytechnics, engineering colleges, universities, skill training institutions and industry partners. This wider outreach is expected to help identify talented youth from both urban and rural areas and bring them into a structured skill development pathway.
Impact on Employability and Skill Development
The launch of IndiaSkills 2026–27 is important for India’s broader skilling ecosystem. Competitions of this scale help connect training with industry standards, motivate learners to improve their craft, and create visibility for vocational careers.
For young participants, IndiaSkills can open doors to mentorship, advanced training, national recognition, industry exposure and international competition opportunities. For training institutions and industry partners, it creates a platform to benchmark skills, improve training quality and support India’s goal of becoming a global hub for skilled talent.
