TRI Manipur Organises AI Seminar for Tribal Development and Efficient Governance
The Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Manipur organised a capacity building seminar on “AI for Tribal Development and Efficient Governance” on 19 May 2026 as part of Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026. The programme focused on strengthening the capacity of officials and institutions to understand and use Artificial Intelligence for better governance, improved service delivery and tribal development.
The seminar witnessed participation from more than 150 officers representing the Department of Tribal Affairs, Autonomous District Councils, Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC), and Ashram Schools. The deliberations focused on how emerging technologies, particularly AI, can be applied in governance systems to improve planning, monitoring, administration and citizen-centric service delivery.
AI as a Tool for Tribal Development
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly being seen as a transformative tool for governance and development. For tribal and hill areas, where geographical distance, infrastructure limitations and last-mile delivery challenges often affect access to public services, AI-based solutions can help improve efficiency, transparency and decision-making.
During the seminar, officers discussed the practical use of AI in areas such as data-driven planning, scheme monitoring, beneficiary identification, education management, administrative reporting, grievance redressal and better coordination between departments and local governance institutions.
The capacity building programme aimed to familiarise officials with how digital tools can support more responsive governance, especially in tribal communities where inclusive and timely service delivery remains a key development priority.
Deputy Chief Minister Highlights AI’s Governance Potential
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence in improving service delivery across Manipur’s hill areas. She underlined that technology can play an important role in making governance more efficient, accessible and people-oriented.
Her address emphasised the importance of preparing government officials and local institutions to adopt new-age technologies in a practical and responsible manner. The seminar also reflected the need to build institutional capacity so that technology is not limited to policy discussions but is effectively integrated into day-to-day governance systems.
Technology as a Bridge to Viksit Bharat
The programme was rooted in the broader national vision of using technology as an enabler for inclusive development. Aligned with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the seminar highlighted how digital innovation can act as a bridge between tribal communities and the goal of a Viksit Bharat.
By bringing together officers from key departments and institutions, the event created a platform for dialogue on the role of AI in strengthening public administration in tribal regions. It also reinforced the importance of capacity building among officials who are directly involved in policy implementation and community-level development.
Focus on Efficient Governance and Last-Mile Delivery
The seminar placed strong emphasis on the use of AI for efficient governance. In tribal and hill regions, effective governance requires accurate data, timely decisions, coordination between institutions and regular monitoring of public services. AI and digital tools can support these priorities by helping officials analyse information, identify gaps and improve delivery mechanisms.
The participation of officers from Autonomous District Councils, MTDC and Ashram Schools added further relevance to the programme, as these institutions are closely connected with tribal welfare, education, local development and community outreach.
A Step Towards Future-Ready Governance
TRI Manipur’s seminar on AI for Tribal Development and Efficient Governance marks an important step towards building future-ready governance capacity in the tribal development sector. By introducing officials to practical AI applications, the initiative supports the larger objective of making governance more data-driven, inclusive and responsive.
As technology continues to reshape public administration, such capacity building programmes can help ensure that tribal communities are not left behind in India’s digital transformation journey. Instead, they can become active participants in a governance ecosystem that is smarter, faster and more connected to local needs.
