NOU Launches Employability App to Boost Job Prospects

Patna, May 4:
In an effort to strengthen career readiness among students, Nalanda Open University (NOU) on Monday launched a new “Employability App” aimed at connecting academic learning with real-world job opportunities.

The application is designed to support students enrolled in various programmes by providing access to employment opportunities, internships, freelancing options, and career development resources. According to university officials, the initiative seeks to address the growing need for skill-based education in an increasingly competitive job market.
Speaking at the launch, Vice-Chancellor Ravindra Kumar said that higher education institutions must move beyond traditional degree-based outcomes and focus on equipping students with practical, job-oriented skills.

“In today’s competitive age, merely awarding degrees is not enough. The university is committed to linking education with employability and ensuring that students are prepared for the professional world,” he said.

The app will enable students to explore job openings, access advanced courses, and find opportunities in internships and part-time or remote work. It also includes features such as resume-building tools, career counselling support, and resources for preparing for competitive examinations.

Registrar Abhay Kumar Singh noted that the platform would help students identify suitable career paths aligned with their skills and academic background.
“The app will assist students in preparing for competitive exams and finding appropriate employment opportunities based on their knowledge and capabilities,” he said.
University officials added that the initiative focuses on promoting industry-relevant skills and improving students’ overall employability. Faculty members and contributors involved in the development of the app also highlighted its role in bridging the gap between education and the job market.

The launch comes amid increasing concerns over employability among graduates, with experts often pointing to a mismatch between academic training and industry requirements. Institutions across the country have been exploring digital solutions and skill-based interventions to address this challenge.

While the effectiveness of such platforms will depend on implementation and industry integration, the university maintains that the app is a step towards creating a more employment-oriented education system.
