Gorakhpur Emerges as a New Tech & Skill Development Hub
Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh – Reinforcing the importance of technology-driven growth, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that embracing technology is essential to accelerate development and ensure long-term competitiveness.
Addressing the inauguration of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre at Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), the Chief Minister underlined how innovation, research, and digital infrastructure are shaping the future of India’s economy.
Technology, Skills & Innovation: The Growth Triangle
The Chief Minister emphasized that while technology adoption takes time, the government is actively building platforms to convert youth-driven ideas into scalable innovation and research outcomes.
“Technology transforms growth into sustained progress. Our focus is to empower youth and create an ecosystem where innovation thrives,” he said.
He also highlighted a critical gap in the past, noting that earlier governments failed to convert India’s population scale into a skilled workforce—a gap now being addressed through focused policies and initiatives post-2014.
Startup Ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh on the Rise
Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a startup powerhouse, with:
- 20,000+ startups currently operational
- Nearly 50% led by women entrepreneurs
The newly inaugurated STPI centre is expected to significantly strengthen this ecosystem by offering a plug-and-play infrastructure model, enabling startups and IT firms to operate without heavy initial capital investment.

- Investments worth ₹1 lakh crore have been made in the region over the past nine years
- Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority has attracted 350+ industries

This growth has significantly boosted infrastructure, healthcare, and employment opportunities in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

- The region’s first Centre of Excellence will be inaugurated on April 15
- A ₹50 crore Green Hydrogen Energy Centre is being developed at Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology
He also highlighted ongoing discussions with Japan, a global leader in hydrogen technology, to bring advanced expertise and collaboration to India.
“New India believes in both heritage and development. Green hydrogen will play a vital role in making us self-reliant,” he added.
STPI Gorakhpur: A Catalyst for IT & Skill Development
The STPI facility, built over 3.5 acres with an investment of ₹20 crore, is equipped with:
- High-speed internet connectivity
- Incubation spaces
- Modern IT infrastructure
It is expected to promote IT/ITES, BPO operations, and startup incubation, while also creating new avenues for skill development and employment generation.
Skill Development at the Core of Digital Growth
The initiative aligns closely with India’s broader vision of Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, where technology adoption and skill development go hand-in-hand.
For stakeholders in the skilling ecosystem, this development signals:
- Increased demand for digital and IT skills
- Expansion of startup-driven employment opportunities
- Stronger integration of industry and training institutions
Conclusion
The inauguration of the STPI centre in Gorakhpur marks a significant step in decentralizing India’s technology ecosystem and promoting inclusive regional development. With a strong focus on innovation, startups, and skill development, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a key contributor to India’s digital and economic growth story.
