Rising Concerns Over Fuel Dependence: Experts Suggest Alternatives to LPG, Petrol and Diesel

By SkillCouncils News Desk

Amid growing discussions around energy security, environmental sustainability, and rising fuel costs, experts and policy observers are emphasizing the need to reduce dependence on conventional fuels such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), petrol, and diesel.

If both the government and the public genuinely feel concerned about the long-term risks associated with these fuels—whether due to global supply uncertainty, environmental impact, or price volatility—then adopting practical alternatives could be an important step forward.

Across households and institutions, several alternatives to LPG-based cooking are already available. These include the use of electric stoves, induction cooktops, solar-powered cooking equipment, and traditional tandoor-based systems that rely on sustainable fuel sources. These technologies can reduce reliance on LPG cylinders while also promoting cleaner and more energy-efficient solutions.

Similarly, in the transportation sector, reducing dependency on petrol and diesel can significantly contribute to energy conservation and environmental protection. Citizens are encouraged to limit the use of personal vehicles and prioritize public transport systems, such as buses, metro services, and shared mobility options. This shift not only reduces fuel consumption but also helps ease traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions in urban areas.

Policy experts also suggest that the government could consider issuing a public advisory encouraging responsible fuel consumption, promoting awareness about available alternatives, and supporting the adoption of renewable energy solutions. Such initiatives could include awareness campaigns, incentives for electric and solar appliances, and infrastructure support for sustainable transport systems.

India has already taken steps toward cleaner energy transitions through initiatives promoting electric mobility, solar energy adoption, and improved public transportation. However, experts believe that public participation and behavioral change will play a crucial role in making these efforts successful.

Reducing dependency on fossil fuels is not only an environmental necessity but also a strategic move toward energy resilience and long-term sustainability.
As India continues its journey toward a greener future, the combined efforts of policymakers, industry, and citizens can create a more sustainable and energy-efficient ecosystem
